Education

I'm pleased to meet you. I enjoy working with students of all backgrounds. I am currently a substitute teacher and love it. It's wonderful to be able to help out so many different students. I am currently in the process of applying for jobs to become a professor or obtain a teaching credential. Teaching students new things and helping them to learn I find is one of the most joyful things in life. I also love learning, and graduated with my B.A. in Religious Studies with an emphasis on Native American religious traditions from UC Santa Barbara in 2012, and obtained my Master's in the same field from the University of Iowa in 2015. In my educational career I have practiced many hours writing essays and for my thesis and I especially bring that experience to the table for tutoring. I have tutored ESL students before in college to improve their writing skills, and I help students now with the same during substitute teaching. I also love learning about the world, so my knowledge of history and the humanities is another gift I offer for you. Thank you for reading all of this! I am willing to tutor students of all ages and all levels. I have worked with a diverse crowd of students in my time, and am willing to accommodate myself for their learning levels and ability. Whether you are a university student struggling to put together an essay in the history of religious thought in America, or an elementary student needing extra help in learning to organize paragraphs, or an ESL student needing proofreading of your class essay, I'm here to help!

Experience

In my academic career I have written many, many essays, and I received A's for the vast majority of them. To obtain my M.A., I wrote an 80-page thesis that was published and it was well-received by my advisors and I wish to continue my education by enrolling in a Ph.D program and furthering my skills in researching and writing. I have also tutored basic writing for the English language in college to foreign students. I have been told that I am a good writer by many teachers and professors in my time. I am also currently a substitute teacher, so I have experience working with a wide variety of students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. I love teaching students, and I absolutely love learning about the world and all those who inhabit it. Ever since I was a young child, I would read thoroughly on natural and human history. Even now I often spend much of my free time reading about those same subjects. In my field of Religious Studies, one has to study history, geography, and diverse amounts of cultures to succeed. I have a background of knowledge for Native American and Indigenous history, American history, world history, and European history. I can also name the majority of countries and many of their languages and ethnic groups on a blank map! In terms of religion, my academic background emphasizes on Native American religious traditions, but I also am able to tutor about other indigenous religious traditions as well as Hinduism. I also know basics of Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Sikhism, Islam, Zoroastrianism, Shinto, and Chinese religions. I also was an anthropology major for quite a while, so I tend to approach subjects from an anthropological perspective. I scored 4 on English AP tests, SAT score was 1820, and my GRE writing score was 4.5. I would like to be a tutor because I love to help others, and I feel intense joy knowing that my knowledge can help another to grow and think critically. I would love to help expand minds, while expanding my own.

Hobbies

I truly enjoy learning and researching! Learning new things constantly is a requirement for me. I spend much of my free time reading up on the subjects I'm interested such as history. I also love to sing (I was in choir for about 10 years), to draw, and even to write. I love my pet three cats and guinea pig as well as all other animals, and learning about the natural environment around us. Nature walks are my thing!
